Serp Keyword Difficulty
Posted 2025-02-10
We've just added a new feature to our SERP Rank Tracker and that is a Keyword Difficulty Rank! This will allow you to see how competitive a SERP Keyword is and how likely your site is to rank in the top 10.
A keyword is just a Google Search term that pulls up a list of websites from Google Search. Keyword research is one of the most important aspects of SEO because it allows you to analyse where best to put your time and effort when it comes to trying to secure Google Traffic.
Now with our Keyword Difficulty score, you can use it to help analyse your SERP Rankings for Keywords you are tracking.
Keyword Difficulty Score
Our Keyword Difficulty Score has 5 ranks:
- Easy
- Medium
- Hard
- Impossible
- Miracle
Each rank represents how difficult it is to rank in the top 10 of those SERPs.
The Keyword Difficulty Rank is based on how powerful each website is in the Serp Rankings. It then summarizes a score based on the top 10 and uses it to give the Keyword a ranking.
Currently the Keyword Difficulty is based on DA and PA of a website. However, we'll be adding more metrics to our tool over time to help improve the accuracy of Keyword Difficulty.
To view the Keyword Difficulty of a keyword, simply click on any Keyword you are tracking and view their SERP History page. This will then calculate the score for you.
Calculating Keyword Difficulty is a complicated process because Google is always changing it's algorithms on what websites it ranks. We've opted for a simple solution to start with, but will be upgrading it as we add more and more features to seoAcorn.
Keyword Difficulty Updates
Our long term plans for Keyword Difficulty include giving weighted scores for certain websites. For example, a YouTube video in the SERPs has a super-strong ranking signal since it comes from YouTube's powerful domain. The reality is that YouTube links can often be easily out-ranked if their keyword relevancy is low.
We'd also like to add an on-page SEO score for every website, which will then also be used to help rank keywords. Domain-strength is just one signal, but there are a hundred other SEO signals we can use to better tune the accuracy.
We'll also be creating a tool to check the Keyword Difficulty of a keyword without having it be tracked in your projects.
